Following the 2009 ASOCHA conference when Colin Benjamin from PACFA challenged our organisation to evaluate the effectiveness of the therapeutic process, the executive of ASOCHA has been busy exploring the most reliable and effective measure. The Session Rating Scale (SRS) devised by Miller, Duncan and Johnson (2002) appears to be the most useful measure of this. It focuses on four areas of satisfaction within the therapeutic process. These include relationship, goals and topics, approach or method, and an overall evaluation of individual sessions.
You are asked to become involved in the
process to obtain evidence regarding the efficacy of counselling. The information that is obtained will provide
clients with a voice which, when analysed, will inform clinicians about what is
beneficial in the therapeutic process. Please
find on the links below copies of an adapted form of the SRS to distribute
following each session with your clients.
Clients have been assured of confidentiality (they will return the
questionnaire in a reply paid address and the inclusion of their name is
optional) therefore you will not receive specific feedback about individual
clients. However, when data are
analysed, results can be available for you to access from the ASOCHA
website. Any questions you may have can
be addressed to me by email to

ASOCHA Research Officer
The reply paid PDF and the Questionnaire are downloaded as separate files, but MUST be copied onto a double sided, single sheet of A4 paper. Please contact Sandra for more information.
